Liverpool are still thought to be looking at signing a defensive midfielder in the final stretch of the window.

Darwin Nunez credits Marcelo Bielsa

Nunez was again named on the bench for the third successive match this season. But he has certainly given   Jurgen Klopp   food for thought with his performance as a second-half substitute. The 24-year-old came on in the 77th minute and equalised just four minutes later. The turnaround was complete in the third minute of stoppage time with another expert finish as Liverpool held out for a famous win. But Nunez has now revealed how recent conversations with his new international boss have helped. Bielsa was appointed Uruguay manager in May, 15 months after being sacked by Leeds. Julian Nagelsmann, his former manager at RB Leipzig, once said: "Dominik can play in a variety of positions. "He can play in attacking midfield, as a left-sided attacker, or even out wide on the left wing. He can also do the same on the right. In Salzburg, he operated as a number 10 a lot and as a left-sided No 8."

Liverpool: Dominik Szoboszlai deal

The 22-year-old has been heavily tracked by Newcastle following an excellent season in the Bundesliga that yielded six goals and eight assists. Liverpool have a strong relationship with RB Leipzig and have allowed forward Fábio Carvalho to join them on a season-long loan. The 20-year-old moved to Anfield from Fulham last summer for an initial £5m and on a five-year contract. “He will now continue his development and gain more experience in Germany with Leipzig,” said a Liverpool statement.

Liverpool made special Timo Werner request

Liverpool are believed to have already held discreet discussions with  RB Leipzig , in which they laid out their intentions to sign Timo Werner. The transfer saga looks set to be a dominant storyline in the coming months as the Reds and other clubs acclimatise to the current financial landscape. The Plan A for Liverpool at the end of this season, has always been to sign Werner. Jurgen Klopp is set to lose Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane for up to six weeks next January as they jet up to the African Cup of Nations. The brutal reality is that the current attacking options in reserve are not capable of stepping up to the plate for such a prolonged period of time.
